Frequently Asked Questions

Common questions from production designers, set decorators, event producers and creative directors. If you can’t find what you need, contact our team directly.

Do you work directly with production designers and set decorators? +

Yes. Balloonista works directly with production designers, set decorators, art directors and prop masters across film, TV and commercial productions. We understand the hierarchy on set and are comfortable briefing to reference boards, mood references, storyboards or Pantone specifications. Most of our production work comes through direct approach from the art department rather than through producers.

What’s your lead time for film and TV productions? +

We understand production schedules shift constantly. Our standard lead time is 2 to 4 weeks for designed installations, 6 to 8 weeks for branded or custom-printed balloons, but we regularly turn around 48 to 72-hour briefs for reshoots, script changes and pickup days. Short-notice enquiries are considered based on team capacity — contact us as early as possible and we’ll tell you honestly whether we can deliver.

What’s a realistic budget for balloon installations on a film set? +

Installation budgets typically start from £800 + VAT for small-scale set dressing and scale up significantly for hero scenes, large venues or complex builds. A single dramatic arch might be £1,500 to £3,500; a full ballroom or exterior installation can run into five figures. Share your budget at enquiry stage and we’ll propose options that work — it saves everyone time.

Can you accommodate last-minute script changes or reshoots? +

Yes. Productions pivot — we’ve built our workflow to handle it. Colour palette changes, scale adjustments, pickup-day installations and emergency reshoots are all part of the work we regularly deliver. Where materials are already ordered we’ll be transparent about what can flex and what is locked.

Do you provide on-set standby during filming? +

Yes, on an as-required basis. Balloons can shift between takes — balloons pop, catch air conditioning or need repositioning. For productions that need continuity across a full shoot day, we can arrange an on-set technician to monitor, replace and adjust installations between takes. This is arranged per project and included in your quote upfront.

How do you handle logistics for balloon decor on busy film sets and live event venues? +

Balloonista works closely with production coordinators, locations managers and venue teams to ensure installations run smoothly around tight schedules. We conduct site-specific risk assessments, coordinate access and loading bay requirements in advance, and work within take-down windows. Our team is experienced operating within the access protocols of leading London venues and production sets.

What insurance and compliance documentation do you provide for productions? +

Balloonista holds full public liability insurance and provides the following documentation to productions on request: certificate of insurance, RAMS (Risk Assessment and Method Statement), site-specific risk assessments, and ISO 14001 environmental management certification. We’re comfortable completing production supplier onboarding forms and health and safety paperwork required by major studios and broadcasters.

Which productions have you worked on previously? +

Balloonista’s installations have featured in Netflix’s Back in Action at Waddesdon Manor, alongside work for the BBC, ITV and Channel 4 across film, drama and entertainment productions. Much of our production work is delivered under NDA and cannot be named publicly. References from production designers and set decorators are available on request at enquiry stage.

Can balloon decor be customised for specific themes or branding in TV productions or advertising campaigns? +

Absolutely. Balloonista offers full customisation including bespoke colour palettes, logo application on large-format balloons, and designs tailored to your campaign or brand guidelines. For brand activations, advertising shoots and corporate film work, we can match exact Pantone references and design installations around specific hero moments or product reveals.
